Percepções sobre o acolhimento residencial de fratrias: Experiências de profissionais, crianças e jovens

Abstract

Esta investigação incide sobre o acolhimento residencial de fratrias em Lares de Infância e Juventude. As políticas de acolhimento enfatizam a promoção do acolhimento de irmãos, embora a literatura demonstre que as decisões técnico-profissionais a este nível se baseiam mais em circunstancialismos práticos do que numa avaliação das necessidades e das relações fraternas. Através de dois estudos de carácter exploratório pretendeu-se caracterizar as ideias e experiências dos profissionais de Lar, e das crianças e jovens acolhidos, sobre o acolhimento de irmãos. No estudo 1, participaram 20 profissionais de 4 Lares e optou-se pela realização de grupos focais sobre o positivo e negativo do acolhimento de fratrias e os critérios reais e ideais de tomada de decisão sobre a colocação em Lar. A protecção entre os irmãos surgiu como importante aspecto positivo do acolhimento conjunto, e os conflitos e os projectos de vida diferentes foram identificados como principais pontos negativos do mesmo. Os critérios reais identificados foram, maioritariamente, de ordem prática, confirmando a literatura. O estudo 2 envolveu 26 crianças e jovens, cujo primeiro acolhimento foi com (n=14) ou sem (n=12) irmãos. Através de entrevistas individuais, a tristeza de viver sem irmãos foi a emoção mais reportada pelas crianças. Ao contrário do grupo acolhido sem irmãos, o grupo com irmãos não referiu nenhum aspecto negativo no acolhimento conjunto. A protecção fraterna no Lar surgiu como uma categoria importante. Realçam-se os paralelos encontrados entre as duas perspectivas com fundamento teórico na literatura e discutem-se implicações para as políticas de acolhimento de fratrias.

The scope of this research is the residential care of siblings in out-of-home care. The residential care policies stress the encouragement of siblings’ placement, even though the literature shows that the professional technical decisions on this regard are based more on practical circumstances than on an evaluation of the specific needs of siblings’ relationships. Through two studies of an exploratory nature, it was intended to characterize the experiences of children and adolescents’ residential care professionals on siblings placement. In study 1, 20 professionals of 4 residential care units participated in focus groups on the positive and negative aspects of siblings’ placement, as well as on the actual and ideal criteria for the decision making concerning placement. One important positive aspect of siblings’ placement identified in the course of the study was protection between siblings, whereas conflicts and different life projects were identified as negative aspects. The criteria taken into account in the decision making process were, mainly, of a pratical nature, confirming the literature. In study 2, 26 children and adolescents were involved on study 2. Fourteen of them were placed with siblings and 12 without. The emotion mentioned the most by children and adolescents of both groups, when individually interviewed, was sadness of living without their siblings. Opposite to the group placed without siblings, the group placed with siblings did not refer any negative aspects of the joint placement. The protection between siblings in the residential care unit was, once again, mentioned as an important issue. The common features between the two perspectives are emphasized and the implications for siblings’ placement are argued.
