Os impactos das alterações climáticas e ação humana nas dinâmicas socioeconómicas nas aldeias do Açor

Abstract

A tese apresenta os resultados do estudo das dinâmicas sociais, culturais e económicas ao longo do tempo interligando com os impactos ambientais do séc. XXI no estudo do caso da Serra do Açor. O abandono dos territórios rurais criou sérios problemas de desenvolvimento que interferem em várias vertentes. O turismo criativo e as teorias de desenvolvimento rural têm apresentado soluções para reverter este abandono e atrair pessoas a estes territórios, de forma a beneficiarem do turismo e terem condições para poderem investir e eventualmente fixar-se. A tese analisa a aplicação destes projetos e teorias e o impacto que têm vindo a ter em contexto rural. Cria-se assim uma história deste local, mostrando as suas dificuldades, e ao mesmo tempo, a resiliência das povoações com o objetivo de manterem as suas tradições, culturas, costumes e preservarem este território e todos os seus benefícios. O periódico “A Comarca da Arganil” e o periódico “Serras da Pampilhosa” servem de fontes de informação para a análise do caso de estudo para o séc. XXI, recolhendo tópicos de informação como projetos de desenvolvimento importantes, como a “Rede das Aldeias de Xisto”, participações em eventos e divulgações do território, importantes entrevistas a membros das comissões de freguesias, decisões políticas impactantes e ainda informação sobre a maior ameaça do território pampilhosense, os incêndios. São usadas ainda fontes de informação de outros jornais ao longo da tese de forma a obter conhecimento sobre o possível futuro destas serras, nomeadamente, sobre o seu potencial para receber outras energias renováveis e a exploração de lítio. Por fim, após a recolha de todos os dados, analisa-se todo o progresso do território, o bem e o mal, juntamente com os defeitos que se mantêm e dificultam a progressão e discute-se o futuro destas zonas e potenciais soluções de melhoramento. A tese traz um contributo para a compreensão da importância de locais como a Serra do Açor no nosso país. Apela e reforça a ideia de como as alterações climáticas já estão a afetar estes territórios e questiona o seu futuro, sugerindo alternativas.

The thesis presents the results of the study of social, cultural and economic dynamics over time, interconnected with the environmental impacts of the 21st century in the case study of Serra do Açor. The abandonment of rural territories has created serious development problems that affect several aspects. Creative tourism and rural development theories have presented solutions to reverse this abandonment and attract people to these territories, so that they benefit from tourism and are able to invest and eventually settle. The thesis analyzes the application of these projects and theories and the impact they have had in a rural context. This creates a history of this place, showing its difficulties and at the same time, the resilience of the villages with the aim of maintaining their traditions, cultures, customs and preserving this territory and all its benefits. The periodical “A Comarca da Arganil” and the periodical “Serras da Pampilhosa” serve as sources of information for the analysis of the case study for the 21st century, collecting information topics such as important development projects, such as the “Rede das Aldeias Xisto”, participations in events and actively publicizing the territory, important interviews to members on the commission board, political important decisions and furthermore, information about one of the biggest threats to the pampilhosense territory, the wild fires. Sources of information from other newspapers are also used throughout the thesis in order to obtain knowledge about the possible future of these mountains, namely, their potential to receive other renewable energies and the potential exploration of lithium. Finally, after collecting all the data, the entire progress of the territory is analyzed, the good and the bad, along with the defects that remain and hinder progression and the future of these areas and potential improvement solutions are discussed. The thesis makes a contribution to understanding the importance of places like Serra do Açor in Portugal. It appeals and reinforces the idea of how climate change is already affecting these territories and questions their future, suggesting alternatives.
