A herança mineira industrial de Torre de Moncorvo: Pare, escute e olhe: Estação ferroviária do Carvalhal

Abstract

O município de Torre de Moncorvo, Bragança, partilha uma conexão histórica indissociável do extenso jazigo de ferro na Serra do Reboredo, delineando um horizonte com mais de 2000 anos de atividade humana. Partindo de um lugar geograficamente isolado, cruzado pela antiga Linha ferroviária do Sabor como principal eixo de comunicação, o ensaio aborda as repercussões da instalação do polo mineiro industrial, no Carvalhal. O período que se estende entre 1950 -1970 representa uma época determinante nesta região, compreendendo a integração, consolidação e posterior encerramento da exploração. Fundamental neste processo foi a criação de infraestruturas simultaneamente funcionais e habitacionais, complementares ao pleno funcionamento, e que constituem o foco principal deste estudo. De modo a compreender os vestígios industriais existentes, é imperativo interpretar o enquadramento geológico do substrato do Reboredo e explorar o panorama histórico da mineração e metalurgia nesta região, reconhecendo seu papel na criação da identidade ambiental e cultural. Através deste pressuposto é possível efetuar um levantamento dos impactes da integração da indústria mineira no lugar e de que forma persistem. Englobando uma análise que expõe as afinidades entre os recursos naturais, o património histórico industrial e a identidade de Moncorvo, é apresentada a proposta arquitetónica que comporta as conclusões retiradas do processo de investigação. Consistindo num conjunto formado por três elementos, o projeto de intervenção inclui a uma albergaria, a requalificação do antigo apeadeiro do Carvalhal e a reconstituição do silo de minério para posto de observação da paisagem.

The municipality of Torre de Moncorvo, located in Bragança, shares an enduring historical connection with the extensive iron deposit in Serra do Reboredo, spanning over 2000 years of human activity. Situated in a geographically isolated area intersected by the former Sabor railway line, this essay explores the implications of establishing an industrial mining hub in Carvalhal. The period between 1950 and 1970 represents a crucial era in this region, encompassing the integration, consolidation, and subsequent cessation of mining exploration. Central to this process was the creation of both functional and residential infrastructure, critical for the region's mining operations. To comprehend the remaining industrial traces, it is essential to understand the geological context of the Serra do Reboredo substrate and delve into the historical background of mining and metallurgy in this region. Recognizing their indispensable role in the environmental and cultural identity of the area is paramount. Only through this premise can a comprehensive assessment of the impacts of integrating the mining industry in the region be conducted, along with an exploration of their persistence in the current Carvalhal landscape. This analysis reveals the connections between natural resources, historical industrial heritage, and the regional identity of Moncorvo. It also presents an architectural proposal derived from the research. The intervention project includes the creation of a hostel, the requalification of the former Carvalhal railway station, and the reconstruction of an ore silo for landscape observation.
