Passando a fronteira em tempos conturbados. Refugiados espanhóis em Portugal no decorrer da década de 1930

Abstract

Este artigo pretende analisar a presença de refugiados espanhóis em Portugal durante a década de 1930. Procura-se compreender as diferenças e as semelhanças que caracterizaram os vários momentos de chegada de refugiados ao país, em especial após 1931, na sequência da instauração da II República em Espanha, e entre 1936 e 1939, no contexto da guerra civil. Procura-se também perceber a forma como o regime salazarista reagiu a cada um deles, tendo em consideração o contexto ibérico do período em questão, fortemente conturbado e marcado por várias alterações nas relações entre os países, que influenciaram a forma como os refugiados foram percecionados em Portugal, nomeadamente a emergência dos fascismos ibéricos e a ocorrência da guerra civil espanhola.

This article intends to analyze the presence of Spanish refugees in Portugal during the 1930s. It seeks to understand the differences and similarities that characterized the various moments of arrival of refugees in the country, especially after 1931, following the establishment of the Second Republic in Spain, and between 1936 and 1939, in the contexto of the civil war. It also seeks to understand how the Salazar's regime reacted to each of them, taking into account the Iberian context of the period in question, which was highly troubled and marked by several changes in relations between countries, which influenced the way refugees were perceived in Portugal, namely the emergence of Iberian fascisms and the occurrence of the Spanish Civil War.
