Technology is changing the way organizations work and the way workers carry out their tasks by having an impacting, both positive and negative, on their well-being and satisfaction. Technology can be either seen as a resource or as a demand, depending on how it is perceived. When it is perceived in a negative way, the requirements translate into needs/difficulties, which organizations must seek to overcome in order to guarantee the well-being and satisfaction of their workers. Therefore, it is mandatory that organizations consider the work of Organizational and/or Work Psychologists. Bearing this in mind, this study, of qualitative nature, mainly focused on identifying the difficulties/needs of workers when faced with the introduction of technology in their workplaces, understanding the importance of the organizational psychologist’s role in answering to these same needs/difficulties and also understanding to what extent the main functions of the organizational psychologist change in order to promote the well-being and satisfaction of the workers when dealt with technology introduction. In order to respond to these proposed objectives, 19 semi-structured interviews were carried out – both with psychologists and workers. The collected data was analyzed using template analysis, resulting in three main themes: (1) introduction of technology in workplaces, (2) impact of technological introduction, (3) psychology in organizations. The results contributed of identify the needs/difficulties of workers when dealing with technology and showed how little psychology is involved with these issues. |
