humor, sonhos e planos; a nível social e comunitário: família, amigos, vizinhos, trabalho e
ONGs e suporte governamental; e a nível religioso: fé e espiritualidade, religião e cultura, e
With the worldwide growth in the numbers of forced migrants, the need to look at this problem is accentuated, in order to develop pragmatic and concrete interventions for such adversity. The objective of the present study was to identify which are the factors that, according to Muslim refugee women, help them to reinvent a way of living after refuge. In-depth interviews were conducted with 14 Muslim women forced migrants, between 19 and 49 years old, with an average time of refuge situation of 9 years, welcomed in host countries such as Chad, Iraq, Canada, Germany and Australia. The main results pointed to the existence of seven main resources used to reinvent themselves, namely: 1) Nuclear family; 2) Personality and individual attitudes; 3) Belief in God and faith; 4) Stability and life structure; 5) Studies and instruction; 6) Dreams and plans; 7) Work and social function. Regarding coping resources at different levels, the following were identified at the individual level: positive attitudes and beliefs, reassignment of meaning, self-talk, personality, mood, dreams and plans; at the social and community level: family, friends, neighbors, work and voluntary activities, studies and school, community representatives, support from NGOs and government support; and at the religious level: faith and spirituality, religion and culture, and support of other religions. The results are discussed in the light of the literature, thinking about public policies for the provision of adequate resources, and aiming at more lasting solutions for people in refugee situations. |
