We currently live in an era where the emergence of the Internet is no longer just emergent, but something completely established and the norm. Misinformation is not a current phenomenon, existing at least since the 1990s when the Internet as we know it was in its infancy. However, it is a problem that is being reinforced especially with social media, acting on all areas of society. Fact-Checking is also a phenomenon that arises as a response to this problem. First in a political context, it now emerges as a response in all contexts. An online questionnaire survey was conducted among 143 individuals with the aim of measuring the respondents' perception of the phenomenon of disinformation, but also of Fact-Checking. Through the results it was possible to observe that there is a certain awareness about the themes of disinformation and Fact-Checking. In other words, they are informed about the issues and realize the importance of social media. It was also possible to see that fact-checking media are growing in Portugal and it is felt that such media are needed to combat the problem of disinformation. |
