A mutilação genital feminina na população guineense a residir em Portugal

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como principal intuito analisar a perspetiva dos homens guineenses a residir em Portugal sobre a prática da mutilação genital feminina, pretendendo-se também averiguar qual a sua perspetiva sobre o seu papel na minimização/erradicação da prática. Este estudo é de tipo qualitativo, sendo que a amostra foi constituída por 14 participantes (homens guineenses a residir em Portugal). Foi construído e aplicado um guião de entrevista semi-estruturada, constituída por 12 questões, sendo que os dados foram transcritos e analisados com base na análise de conteúdo (Bardin, 2009). Após a análise e discussão dos resultados foi possível averiguar que os homens não concordam com a realização da mutilação genital feminina, sendo que consideram que é importante intervirem a esse nível, quer realizando ações de sensibilização, com vista à prevenção ou minimização da ocorrência desta prática. Para além disso, constatou-se que maioritariamente foram destacados vários efeitos negativos desta prática, de entre os quais foram referidos: os biológicos, os psicológicos, os associados à maternidade da mulher (consequências para a mãe e para o bebé). Assim, este tema deve ser alvo de um enfoque cada vez mais aprofundado, de forma a intervir-se do modo mais ajustado possível, com vista à minimização ou erradicação desta prática, influenciando assim as alterações de perspetiva da comunidade guineense sobre a prática da MGF quer na guiné, quer em Portugal.

The main objective of this study is analyze what are the perspectives of Guinean men, who are living in Portugal, about the practice of female genital mutilation. We intend to understand their perspectives, because it is important to know what is their role in minimizing/eradication of the practice. In this case, we applied a qualitative study. The sample is consisted of 14 participants (men Guineans who are living in Portugal). Furthermore, we built and applied a semi-structured interview guide with 12 questions, and the data were transcribed and analyzed based on content analysis (Bardin, 2009). After the analysis and the discussion of the results it was possible to ascertain that men do not agree with the completion of female genital mutilation, and consider it important to intervene at this level, conducting awareness-raising with a view to preventing or minimizing the occurrence of this practice. Furthermore, we could conclude that a majority were highlighted several negative effects of this practice, among which were mentioned: the biological, psychological, associated with maternity woman (consequences for the mother and baby). In this sense, this question should be the subject of an increasingly thorough approach, in order to minimize or eradicate this practice, influencing the perspective changes the Guinean community about the practice in Guinea and/or in Portugal.
