Fatores explicativos do insucesso escolar no ensino superior em alunos autóctones e de descendência não lusa

Abstract

Em Portugal existe um grande desfasamento entre o número de alunos inscritos no ensino superior e o número de diplomados, estando a percentagem destes últimos muito aquém dos números estipulados pela União Europeia para Portugal até 2020. São vários os estudos que procuram analisar que fatores contribuem para o sucesso escolar neste nível de ensino, mas são escassos os estudos que têm em conta a multiculturalidade destes alunos, negligenciando-se o papel da etnicidade. Apesar de algumas pesquisas procurarem compreender que fatores contribuem para o sucesso de alunos não lusos, mas de origem PALOP (Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa), os mesmos têm sido realizados com crianças e adolescentes existindo uma lacuna ao nível da pesquisa com alunos do ensino superior. O objetivo do presente estudo consistiu em analisar, simultaneamente, o papel de variáveis sociodemográficas (sexo, idade), psicológicas (autoeficácia e autoconceito académico) e contextuais (relacionamento com a família, colegas e professores) no insucesso escolar, para alunos autóctones (454) e para alunos com descendência não lusa (47). Os resultados obtidos apontam para a clara influência de variáveis sociodemográficas no sucesso escolar, e particularmente da idade, tanto para alunos autóctones como não lusos. Verifica-se, ainda, um efeito positivo do relacionamento com a família no número de reprovações, e um efeito negativo do relacionamento com os professores no número de reprovações, mas apenas para alunos autóctones. Os resultados serão discutidos à luz das abordagens teóricas existentes sobre este tópico de pesquisa.

In Portugal there is a huge gap between the number of students enrolled in higher education and the number of graduates, the percentage of the latter being far below of the numbers set by the European Union for Portugal until 2020. There are several studies that seek to analyze what factors contribute to academic success at this level of education, but there are few studies that take into account the multicultural of this students, neglecting the role of ethnicity. Although some research seek to understand what factors contribute to the success of non-native students, with a PALOP (African Portuguese-Speaking Countries) background, that research has been done with children and teenagers, so there is a void in the research with students in higher education. The aim of this study was to examine simultaneously the role of sociodemographic variables (sex, age), psychological (self-efficacy and academic self-concept) and contextual (relationships with family, peers and teachers) in school retention for autochthonous students (454) and for non-native students (47). The results obtained indicate a clear influence of sociodemographic variables on academic success, and particularly age, both for autochthonous students and non-native. It also turns out a positive effect of the relationship with the family on retention, and a negative effect of the relationship with the teachers on retention, but only for autochthonous students. The results will be discussed based on existing theoretical approaches on this research topic.
