A subsistência e o desenvolvimento entre comunidades rurais: um estudo em quatro aldeias do Chitembo

Abstract

O trabalho que se apresenta centra-se nas tarefas relacionadas com a subsistência em comunidades de quatro aldeias do município do Chitembo, na bacia do Okavango/Zambeze, em Angola. A análise revelou que estas populações dedicam a maioria do seu tempo a tarefas da agricultura de subsistência e recolecção. Em Angola, a questão da restruturação da actividade agro-pecuária tem merecido debates por parte dos partidos políticos, organizações da sociedade civil e instituições internacionais que defendem que esta é a base de subsistência da maioria da população e que o país dispõe de condições de solo e clima favoráveis à prática desta actividade. A análise das implicações das tarefas relacionadas com a subsistência constitui o objectivo central da dissertação, aferindo-se a existência de pobreza e de dedicação quase exclusiva às tarefas relacionadas com a subsistência devido à estagnação do crescimento tecnológico. Não havendo condições favoráveis à prática de actividades agro-pecuárias que proporcionem melhores condições de vida e mantendo-se a pobreza como uma condição, a esperança dos jovens rapazes é emigrar enquanto as raparigas se vêem perpetuadas a viver as mesmas circunstâncias das suas mães. A constatação das condições acima referidas resultou de uma metodologia de investigação combinando um período de incursão teórica sobre questões relacionadas com o desenvolvimento africano e um trabalho de terreno que proporcionou uma interacção com as comunidades através da realização de inquéritos, entrevistas e observação. Os entrelaçamentos das duas metodologias, bem como a análise e discussão dos dados, resultaram na presente dissertação

The present work focus on the activities related to the subsistence in communities of four villages in the municipality of Chitembo, on Okavango´s/Zambeze basin, in Angola. The survey revealed that these people invest their major range of time doing subsistence agriculture and gathering goods. The issues related to the changes within the livestock farming and agricultural activities in Angola, has been discussed by the political parties, by the civil society organizations, and by the international institutions which consider that this area is the base of sustainability for the major part of the people and also that there are good conditions of soils and climate in Angola to agricultural activities. The analysis of the implications of activities related to subsistence is the main goal of the dissertation, which recognises widespreadpoverty and the almost exclusive dedication of the population to the tasks concerning subsistence due to the technological stagnation. Having no favorable conditions to practice farming and agriculture activities providing better life conditions and in a condition of poverty, the hopes of young males is to migrate while girls foresee continuing living in the same conditions as their mothers do. The findings of the refered conditions resulted from a research methodology combining a period of theoretical incursion on the issues related to the African development and a period of fieldwork that provided the interaction with the communities through the conduction of a survey, interviews and observation. The interaction of both methodologies as well the analyses and data discussion had as a result this present dissertation.
