Melhoria das condições portuárias do espaço reservado à operação marítima de passageiros na Praia da Vitória

Abstract

O transporte marítimo assume extrema importância em regiões insulares como o arquipélago dos Açores. Este transporte permite a mobilidade de pessoas e mercadorias inter-ilhas e leva à criação de um mercado interno na Região, promovendo a economia regional. O porto marítimo da Praia da Vitória tem um papel fundamental no transporte marítimo de passageiros, pois faz a ligação entre as ilhas do Grupo Oriental e as restantes ilhas do arquipélago. Este porto é o único local de transbordo de passageiros e viaturas. Desta forma, é crucial existir uma rigorosa distribuição/localização dos equipamentos, materiais e pessoas naquele espaço, isto é, um layout portuário bem planeado. A Atlânticoline, S.A. é a empresa responsável pelo transporte de passageiros e viaturas nos Açores, tendo percebido que o atual layout do porto da Praia da Vitória estava a limitar a prestação de um serviço de qualidade aos seus passageiros. Assim, o objetivo principal deste trabalho é determinar a melhor alternativa ao layout atualmente utilizado no espaço reservado à operação marítima de passageiros no porto da Praia da Vitória. A qualidade percecionada pelos passageiros foi o critério utilizado na revisão do layout portuário. Após profunda pesquisa bibliográfica sobre qualidade nos serviços, gestão portuária e layout, foram apresentadas as diferentes propostas de alteração ao layout atual de modo a aumentar a qualidade percecionada pelos passageiros. Este trabalho oferece assim uma visão sobre o impacto da revisão de um layout portuário assente no bem-estar dos passageiros.

Maritime Transport assumes extreme importance in a region like the Azores islands. This transport allows inter-island mobility of people and cargo, and it leads to a creation of an internal market in the Region, promoting the region’s economy. Praia da Vitória seaport has a fundamental role in maritime passenger transport, because it makes the connection between the Eastern Group islands and the rest of the islands of the archipelago. This port is the only place of passengers and vehicles transshipment. Thus, it’s crucial the existence of a rigorous distribution/localization of equipment, materials and people in that area. In other words, a well-planned port layout. Atlânticoline, S.A company is the responsible for transporting passengers and vehicles in Azores, having understood that the current layout of Praia da Vitória seaport was limiting the provision of a quality service to its passengers. Therefore, the main goal of this work is to determinate the best alternative to the currently layout used in space reserved for passenger maritime operation in the port of Praia da Vitoria. The perceived quality by passengers was the criteria used in the revision of the seaport layout. After exhaustive literature review on quality of services, port management and layout, there were presented different proposals of changes in the current layout to increase quality perceptions of passengers. In summary, this work offers an insight of the impact of the revision of a port layout focused on passenger’s well-being.
