The seas and oceans have always been an important source not only of resources but also of conflict. They are essential to the security and development of communities that depend on the sea for their livelihood in many African countries. The Africa's 2050 Integrated Maritime Strategy represents the support for and commitment of the African Union (and African states) to this issue. In the long run they will help to strengthen African maritime development and security. In our view, this constitutes a new dimension in maritime security in Africa. |
