As principais sociedades anónimas desportivas portuguesas: estudo comparativo entre a viabilidade económico-financeira e o sucesso desportivo dos respectivos clubes

Abstract

Este projecto de dissertação tem como objectivo avaliar a rentabilidade das quatro principais Sociedades Anónimas Desportivas (SAD´s) portuguesas, comparando os dados económico-financeiros de cada uma com os respectivos resultados desportivos dos clubes inerentes às SAD´s. A metodologia percorreu as várias etapas intrínsecas a este tipo de dissertação, sob a forma mais convencional, adoptando sempre uma aproximação tanto qualitativa quanto quantitativa, isto é, híbrida. Assumimos inicialmente um paradigma interpretativo, por ser através da observação e análise dos dados que vão surgindo os elementos necessários à investigação. Começámos por aprofundar o nosso conhecimento científico sobre os temas em questão: as SAD´s, o sucesso desportivo e as estruturas financeiras equilibradas. Seguiu-se uma caracterização do sector e uma análise aprofundada tanto das contas como dos resultados desportivos das SAD´s e dos clubes. Posteriormente, cruzámos essas duas análises e terminámos o projecto com uma série de medidas-chave para alcançar, simultaneamente o sucesso desportivo e financeiro. Chegámos, finalmente, à conclusão de que é possível uma Sociedade Anónima Desportiva atingir conjuntamente níveis económicos, financeiros e desportivos satisfatórios se, para tal, adoptar uma série de princípios orientadores. Princípios esses que, interligados através de um ciclo virtuoso, geram mais receitas e consequentemente lucros, contribuindo para uma estrutura financeira equilibrada, favorável a mais vitórias e naturalmente títulos, que por sua vez proporcionam um incremento das receitas concedendo assim coerência ao ciclo virtuoso.

The object of this dissertation is to assess the profitability of the four leading Portuguese Sociedades Anónimas Desportivas (SADs)1 by comparing the economic and financial data of each SAD with the respective sports results of the clubs attached to the SADs. The methodology followed the various steps inherent to this type of dissertation, in the most conventional manner, all the while adopting both a qualitative and quantitative approach, i.e. a hybrid approach. Initially, we took on an interpretative paradigm, as the elements necessary for research arise from the observation and analysis of data. We began by deepening our scientific knowledge of the subjects in question: the SADs, sporting success and balanced financial structures. This was followed by a characterisation of the sector and a thorough analysis of both the accounts and the sports results of the SADs and the clubs. Thereafter, we crossed the data from these two analyses and completed the project with a number of key measures to achieve both financial and sporting success. Finally, we came to the conclusion that a Sociedade Anónima Desportiva can, in fact, achieve satisfactory economic, financial and sporting levels provided a number of guiding principles are adopted to this end. Principles that, when interconnected through a virtuous cycle, generate greater revenue and consequently profits, contributing to a balanced financial structure, conducive to more victories and naturally titles, which in turn provide increased revenue, thereby bestowing coherence to the virtuous cycle.
