Nowadays, a country’s economic condition is not only an internal concern, as its international impact is constantly experienced. Politicians, common investors, or any other anonymous individual are becoming more and more aware of this fact, which granted it growing attention all over the world. The politic imposed by governments and by the entities that governing the monetary policy has, progressively, consequences not only on the target market but also in others markets that indirectly are affected by that policies. Therefore, the man goal of this project is to verify the existence of contagion between the European Union and the United states of America through the analysis of the elections impact on four European countries, as well, the monetary policy changes of European Central Bank on returns of the S&P 500 index. In order to verify this relation was made a linear regression where was introduced economic and financial explanatory variables in addition to the variables in analysis, with the propose of to show he existence relation or it absence. The results show that the elections event of two considered countries, Germany and France, as well the changes on key interest rate by European Central Bank have an impact statistically significant on the returns of S&P500 index. The same conclusion wasn’t verified for the elections events made in Portugal and Greece. |
