A língua e a cultura portuguesas a Oriente: análise ao caso de Macau

Abstract

Tomando o caso de Macau, esta dissertação apresenta uma abordagem sociológica à temática da língua portuguesa, tendo subjacente as dimensões política, económica e cultural dos processos da globalização no âmbito dos quais a questão das línguas tem vindo a ser significativamente assinalada. A problemática construída centra-se em dois eixos de análise que discutem relações "utilitárias-instrumentais-funcionais", por um lado, e, por outro, "identitárias-relacionaisafectivas", estabelecidas em torno da língua e da cultura portuguesas e da sua "localização" numa Macau do Século XXI. São considerados cenários de interacção diversificados, de forma a identificar campos de português: i) nos quais se podem encontrar diferentes lógicas de interesse; ii) que desencadeiam diferentes estratégias e disposições para a aprendizagem da língua; iii) a partir dos quais é possível definir diferentes modos de relação com o português. A estratégia metodológica definida combina análises do tipo qualitativo (observação directa, realização de entrevistas e análise documental) e quantitativo (exploração de informação recolhida através de aplicação de inquérito por questionário a estudantes de língua portuguesa em diversos cursos e graus de ensino).

This thesis attempts to present a sociological approach to the subject of the Portuguese language in the world from the case study of Macau. Underlying this project are the political, economic and cultural dimensions of the globalisation processes, within the scope of which the issue of languages has been emphasised. The question constructed focuses on two branches of analysis that discuss the "utilitarian, instrumental and functional" relations, on one hand, and "identity, relational and affective" relations, on the other hand, established around the Portuguese language and culture and its "localisation" in 21st-century Macao. Diversified scenarios of interaction were considered in order to identify fields of Portuguese: i) in which we can find different logics of interest; ii) that trigger different strategies and dispositions to learn the language; iii) from which we can set different ways of relating to Portuguese. Our methodological strategy combines qualitative analyses (direct observation, interviews and analysis of documents) and quantitative analysis (using the information gathered by submitting questionnaires to Portuguese language students in different courses and levels of education).
