Dinâmicas transnacionais protagonizadas por Associações de Migrantes Guineenses em Portugal

Abstract

Este working paper problematiza a ligação das associações de migrantes guineenses com as respectivas comunidades de origem, à luz das referências teóricas sobre transnacionalismo migrante. Num primeiro momento, são sumariamente apresentados alguns dos elementos que têm conduzido o debate científico internacional sobre este conceito, destacando-se a produção teórica sobre um tipo específico de actor transnacional, as denominadas Hometown Associations. Apresenta-se em seguida a investigação realizada sobre as associações de migrantes guineenses em Portugal, analisando-se a partir de três exemplos concretos o caso específico das associações de migrantes manjacos. A partir dessa referência empírica, reflecte-se sobre o papel destas associações enquanto actores transnacionais, propondo-se, por último, uma validação dos principais pressupostos do quadro teórico inicialmente definido.

This working paper problematizes the connection between Guinean migrant associations and their original communities, in the light of theoretical references on migrant transnationalism. In the first place, it presents a summary of some of the elements that have driven international scientific debate on this concept, in particular the theoretical production on a specific type of transnational actor, the “hometown association”. It then presents the research carried out on the Guinean migrant associations in Portugal, analysing the specific case of the Manjaco migrant associations from the viewpoint of three concrete examples. On the basis of this empirical reference, the article reflects on the role of these associations as transnational actors, finally proposing a validation of the main assumptions contained in the theoretical framework initially defined.
