Estórias da história: Mudanças sociais e estéticas no mundo da arte Português desde a Revolução de 1974

Abstract

O objectivo principal deste trabalho consiste em compreender de uma forma exploratória como é que as mudanças sociais e estéticas no sistema da arte português se têm traduzido nas condições de exercício da crítica, da venda e da criação. Procuro perceber, em particular, de que forma é que a revolução democrática de 1974 influenciou a obra, a vida e a carreira de dois galeristas, dois críticos de arte e dois artistas. Coloco a hipótese de estas mudanças terem sido facilitadas pela transferência de poder de uma geração artística mais antiga para uma geração artística mais recente, sendo que cada uma delas tem valores éticos e estéticos característicos e antagónicos entre si. O método utilizado enquadra-se na tradição da História Oral. Os entrevistados conhecem-se mutuamente, razão pela qual os seus discursos assumem um carácter intertextual.

The main goal of this paper is to understand in an exploratory manner how the social and aesthetic changes in the Portuguese arts system have affected the conditions of the exercise of critic, sales and creation. I seek to understand, in particular, how the democratic revolution of 1974 has influenced the work, the lives and the careers of two gallerists, two art critics and two artists. I begin with the hypothesis that these changes were facilitated by transference of power from an older artistic generation to a more recent one, being that each has different ethical and aesthetical values. The method used is embedded in the tradition of Oral History. The interviewees know each other, which is why their discourses have an intertextual character.
