Do Rallye Internacional TAP ao Rallye de Portugal: As bases do melhor Rally do Mundo

Abstract

Em 1976, Rallye Internacional TAP / Rallye de Portugal é reconhecido internacionalmente, pelo BPICA, com a classificação de "Melhor Rally do Mundo", após uma década de edições anuais. A presente dissertação tem como objetivo acompanhar o percurso e analisar os primeiros dez anos do Rallye Internacional Tap / Rallye de Portugal, enquanto prova desportiva automobilística, de forma a entender os fatores que permitiram que, em pouco mais de uma década, este evento atingisse este reconhecimento internacional. Desta forma, importa fazer o devido enquadramento no contexto da época e percorrer as todas edições deste Rally situadas entre 1967 e 1976, e tendo em consideração as características socioeconómicas e políticas em Portugal no mesmo período. De igual modo, será necessário considerar as consequências que a crise petrolífera da década de 1970 tiveram no desporto automóvel e de que forma o Rallye de Portugal conseguiu ultrapassar este obstáculo. Para tal recorrer-se-á a um conjunto variado de fontes, com especial enfâse para a imprensa desportiva da época, e em particular a mais vocacionada para o desporto automóvel. Assinalar-se-á igualmente os atores que tiveram uma maior participação na realização deste evento desportivo e cujo contributo mais se salientou para a concretização do ambicionado reconhecimento internacional definido durante o período da Ditadura e concretizado já em Democracia.

In 1976, the Rallye Internacional Tap / Rallye de Portugal was internationally recognized by BPICA as the "Best Rally event in the World," after a decade of annual editions. This dissertation aims to follow the trajectory and analyse the first ten years of the Rallye Internacional TAP / Rallye de Portugal as a motorsport event, in order to understand the factors that allowed this event to achieve this international recognition in just over a decade. Therefore, it is important to provide the proper context for the time and examine all editions of this Rally between 1967 and 1976, considering the socioeconomic and political characteristics of Portugal during the same period. Similarly, it will be necessary to consider the consequences that the 1970s oil crisis had on motorsport and how the Rallye de Portugal managed to overcome this obstacle. To this end, a diverse set of sources will be used, with special emphasis on the sports press of the time, and in particular that most focused on motorsport. The actors who had the greatest participation in the realization of this sporting event and whose contribution stood out most in achieving the coveted international recognition defined during the Dictatorship period and realized in Democracy will also be highlighted.
