Vamos ouvir os públicos? : O Teatro São Luiz e a democracia cultural

Abstract

Partindo do conhecimento do poder transformador do teatro, e da observação do contexto cultural português em geral, emerge a necessidade de os equipamentos culturais desenvolverem estratégias que fomentem um consumo cultural mais democrático, no caminho para uma democracia cultural, conceito central deste estudo. O São Luiz Teatro Municipal (SLTM) assume-se como um dos mais importantes equipamentos culturais da cidade de Lisboa e é o objeto de estudo desta dissertação. Com o nosso olhar na programação do teatro e no espetáculo Deseja-se Fernanda!, foram realizados inquéritos por questionário aos públicos (N=60) e entrevistas qualitativas aos participantes (N=3) para conhecer quem são, quantas vezes vão ao teatro e que outras atividades culturais frequentam. Procuramos, ainda, saber como é que os públicos percecionam a programação e o trabalho de comunicação e de mediação de públicos do Teatro São Luiz, e a possibilidade de participarem mais na sua programação. As entrevistas coletivas às equipas de comunicação e de mediação de públicos do Teatro, e à responsável executiva da EGEAC, ajudaram-nos a enquadrar os objetivos deste Teatro. Conclui-se que conhecer os públicos, as suas opiniões e perceções acerca do SLTM, ofereceu informações relevantes que não só confirmam o valor da missão desta instituição, como fornecem o levantamento de desafios a ter em conta pelas equipas do Teatro para promover práticas mais participativas e inclusivas dos públicos, no sentido de continuar a desenvolver um modelo de democracia cultural neste equipamento lisboeta.

Based on the knowledge of the transformative power of theatre and observation of the Portuguese cultural context, there is a need for cultural facilities to develop strategies that promote more democratic cultural consumption, on the path to cultural democracy, which is the central concept of this study. The São Luiz Municipal Theatre (SLTM) is one of the most important cultural facilities in the city of Lisbon and is the subject of this dissertation. With a focus on the theatre's programme and the show Deseja-se Fernanda!, questionnaires were distributed to the audience (N=60) and qualitative interviews were conducted with participants (N=3) to find out who they are, how often they go to the theatre and what other cultural activities they attend. We also sought to find out how audiences perceive the programming and the communication and audience mediation work of the São Luiz Theatre, and the possibility of participating more in its programming. Group interviews with the theatre's communication and audience mediation teams, and with the executive director of EGEAC, helped us to frame the objectives of this theatre. It can be concluded that understanding audiences, their opinions and perceptions about SLTM provided relevant information that not only confirms the value of this institution's mission, but also highlights challenges that the theatre's teams must take into account in order to promote more participatory and inclusive practices among audiences, with a view to continuing to develop a model of cultural democracy at this Lisbon institution.
