The role of social entrepreneurship in advancing social inclusion: An examination of social enterprises in germany's hospitality sector

Abstract

This thesis investigates the role of social entrepreneurship in fostering social inclusion for vulnerable communities in Germany, with a particular focus on social enterprises operating within the hospitality sector. The research examines the mechanisms employed by these enterprises to address the challenges faced by marginalized groups, such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and individuals living in poverty. Through a qualitative analysis of selected social enterprises, the study explores the strategies they use to integrate vulnerable individuals into society, create meaningful employment opportunities, and promote social cohesion. The research also identifies the key challenges these enterprises face, including financial limitations, regulatory hurdles, and the tension between social mission and financial sustainability. Furthermore, the thesis highlights the opportunities available to social enterprises, such as societal support, innovative funding models, and collaborative networks, that enable them to scale their impact. By examining the intersections of social entrepreneurship and social inclusion, this study provides insights for policymakers, social entrepreneurs, and practitioners interested in harnessing the potential of social enterprises to promote inclusive and sustainable communities in Germany.

Esta tese investiga o papel do empreendedorismo social na promoção da inclusão social para comunidades vulneráveis na Alemanha, com um foco particular em empresas sociais que operam no setor de hospitalidade. A pesquisa examina os mecanismos utilizados por essas empresas para enfrentar os desafios enfrentados por grupos marginalizados, como idosos, pessoas com deficiência e indivíduos que vivem em situação de pobreza. Através de uma análise qualitativa de empresas sociais selecionadas, o estudo explora as estratégias que estas utilizam para integrar indivíduos vulneráveis na sociedade, criar oportunidades de emprego significativas e promover a coesão social. A pesquisa também identifica os principais desafios enfrentados por essas empresas, incluindo limitações financeiras, barreiras regulatórias e a tensão entre a missão social e a sustentabilidade financeira. Além disso, a tese destaca as oportunidades disponíveis para empresas sociais, como o apoio da sociedade, modelos inovadores de financiamento e redes de colaboração, que lhes permitem ampliar o seu impacto. Ao examinar as interseções entre empreendedorismo social e inclusão social, este estudo fornece insights para formuladores de políticas, empreendedores sociais e profissionais interessados em aproveitar o potencial das empresas sociais para promover comunidades inclusivas e sustentáveis na Alemanha.
