Abstract: This thesis explores the lived experiences of care leavers in Botswana as they transition from institutional care to independent adulthood. Drawing on the Life Course Perspective, Ecological Systems Theory, and Resilience Theory, the study examines the socio-economic, emotional, and institutional barriers that impact care leavers' outcomes. Using an interpretive phenomenological approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with careexperienced youth and care professionals. Findings reveal challenges such as inadequate transition planning, economic hardships, and weak interagency collaboration, alongside varied resilience strategies. The study offers policy and practice recommendations aimed at strengthening aftercare systems, improving service coordination, and promoting sustainable transitions for care leavers in Botswana.
