Jovens de direita radical e militância "web" na rede social X: O caso português

Abstract

O crescimento da Internet como principal plataforma de mobilização política permitiu que movimentos de extrema-direita ganhassem visibilidade e promovessem as suas agendas a uma escala global. Em Portugal, onde os movimentos de direita radical historicamente ocupavam uma posição marginal, verificou-se nos últimos anos um aumento da sua presença, especialmente entre jovens ativistas que utilizam as redes sociais. Este estudo foca-se na militância juvenil de direita radical portuguesa online, investigando as clivagens sociopolíticas que moldam a sua mobilização e interação. A investigação identificará até dez dos ativistas mais relevantes na rede social X, anteriormente denominada "Twitter", selecionados com base na densidade das suas redes de interação e na produção de conteúdos durante a campanha para as eleições legislativas de 2024. Os ativistas serão escolhidos entre diferentes partidos e movimentos da direita radical, incluindo independentes, de modo a mapear a diversidade dentro desta esfera. A investigação visa analisar as saliências dos temas principais nos posts partilhados por estes ativistas e as diferentes posições assumidas através da interação mútua. Ao examinar estes comportamentos online, esta investigação pretende contribuir para uma compreensão mais profunda dos processos de radicalização juvenil "online" e das divisões sociopolíticas que impulsionam o crescimento da extrema-direita em Portugal.

The rise of the Internet as a primary platform for political mobilization has enabled farright movements to gain visibility and promote their agendas on a global scale. In Portugal, where radical right movements have historically been on the fringe, recent years have seen a growing presence, particularly among youth activists using social media. This study focuses on the online militancy of Portuguese radical right youth, investigating the socio-political cleavages that shape their mobilization and interaction. The research will identify up to ten of the most relevant activists on the social network X, formerly know as Twitter, selected based on the density of their interaction networks and content production during the 2024 legislative election campaign. Activists will be chosen from different radical right-wing parties and movements, including independents, to map the diversity within the online radical right sphere. The research aims to analyze the salience of key themes in the posts shared by these activists and the different positions they adopt through mutual interaction. By examining these online behaviors, this research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the processes of online radicalization among youth and the socio-political divisions driving the growth of the far-right in Portugal.
