A perceção dos alunos sobre as características dos professores através de sites de rating

Abstract

As tecnologias existentes e o maior acesso à Internet possibilitaram a generalização da publicação de opiniões e classificações de bens e serviços. Na área educativa não é diferente, onde atualmente existem vários sites de rating que permitem que os alunos classifiquem professores e escolas de acordo com um conjunto de critérios. O estudo analisou o site ratemyprofessor.com com o intuito de obter o feedback dos alunos sobre o ensino e identificar características a nível pessoal e educativo mais frequentes nos comentários dos alunos para classificar os professores. A metodologia usada foi o Processo Padrão Inter-Indústrias (CRISP-DM) para mineração dos dados numa lista definida pelo site ratemyprofessor. O conjunto de dados é composto por 8036 classificações de alunos no ensino secundário e universitário referentes a 50 professores de diferentes áreas académicas considerados pelos alunos como os melhores dos anos 2017 a 2018. Os resultados obtidos descreveram perceções e emoções de alunos pertencentes ao ensino secundário e universitário acerca das características que refletem um bom professor na sua visão. As características percecionadas pelos alunos sobre um bom professor refletem pouco o nível de conhecimentos que leciona e a capacidade de comunicação. As características relativamente a personalidade tais como, “impressionante”, “inteligente”, “bonito”, “amigável”, “alegre” e “bondoso” foram os motivos mais relevantes para que os alunos classificassem esses professores como os melhores. Concluindo, há indícios de que a avaliação positiva por alunos em sites de rating é atribuída essencialmente com base nas características pessoais e empatia em relação aos professores.

In the educational area it is no different, where there are currently several rating sites that allow students to rate teachers and schools according to a set of criteria. The study based on analyzing the website ratemyprofessor.com in order to obtain student feedback on teaching and to identify characteristics at the personal and educational level, most frequently in student comments to rate on teachers. The methodology used was the Standard Inter-Industry Process (CRISP-DM) for data mining in a list defined by the website ratemyprofessor. The data set consists of 8036 classifications of students in high school and university for 50 teachers from different academic areas and considered by students as the best of the years 2017 to 2018. The results described the perceptions and emotions of students belonging to high school and university education about the characteristics that reflect a good teacher in their view. The characteristics perceived by students about a good teacher does not reflect that much about the level of knowledge they teach or the ability of the teachers to communicate. Personality characteristics such as, “impressive”, “intelligent”, “beautiful”, “friendly”, “cheerful” and “kind” were the most relevant reasons for students to classify these teachers as the best. In conclusion, there are indications that the positive evaluation by students on rating sites is attributed essentially based on personal characteristics and empathy towards teachers.
