Para além da escolha: Desafios na obrigatoriedade da escolha de um curso no ensino secundário em Portugal

Abstract

O objetivo desta dissertação é compreender o processo de escolha dos percursos educativos e profissionais dos jovens no 9º ano, avaliando a satisfação e o impacto das escolhas académicas e profissionais no ensino secundário, com ênfase nas influências e desafios que afetam essas decisões. A pesquisa partiu da constatação de que muitos jovens enfrentam dificuldades ao escolher as suas áreas de estudo, o que, em alguns casos, resulta em arrependimentos e mudanças de trajetória no ensino secundário A investigação seguiu uma abordagem qualitativa, sendo realizadas semi-estruturadas a estudantes que se sentem ou sentiram insatisfeitos com as suas decisões iniciais. Desta forma, as entrevistas permitiram uma análise detalhada das trajetórias académicas dos entrevistados, explorando os fatores que influenciaram as suas decisões e as mudanças subsequentes. "Os resultados indicam que as escolhas dos alunos são influenciadas por diversos fatores e são frequentemente imaturas, resultando em mudanças de curso e frustração".

The aim of this dissertation is to understand the process of choosing educational and professional paths for young people in the 9th grade, assessing the satisfaction and impact of academic and professional choices in secondary education, with an emphasis on the influences and challenges that affect these decisions. The research started from the realisation that many young people face difficulties when choosing their areas of study, which in some cases results in regrets and changes of trajectory in secondary education. The research followed a qualitative approach, and semi-structured interviews were carried out with students who feel or have felt dissatisfied with their initial decisions. In this way, the interviews made it possible to analyse in detail of the interviewees' academic trajectories, exploring the factors that influenced their decisions and subsequent changes. "The results indicate that students' choices are influenced by various factors and are often immature, resulting in course changes and frustration".
