Flores de plástico no cemitério: Materialidade e significado

Abstract

Nas campas dos cemitérios podemos encontrar a flor e a sua imitação de plástico, fazendo parte de uma tradição póstuma de relação com o memorial. A diferença ontológica entre estas coisas e a sua aparente equivalência no cemitério suscitaram uma curiosidade que se prende com o significado do aparecimento da flor de plástico ali. Assim, é a relação entre significado e materialidade que determina o caminho para a construção de conhecimento através deste artefacto antropológico; é a importância simbólica da flor e o significado do plástico no mundo, assim como o contexto de relação com a morte onde este objeto se encontra inserido, que possibilitam contar uma história acerca do mesmo. A materialidade - precisamente a partir do que uma diferença material desencadeou - contribui para uma reflexão acerca do homem através do questionamento do significado do artefacto.

In the graveyard we can find the flower and its plastic imitation, forming part of a posthumous tradition of relationship with the memorial. The ontological difference between these things and their apparent equivalence in the cemetery evoked a curiosity related to the meaning of the appearing of the plastic flower there. Thus, it is the relationship between meaning and materiality that determines a path to the construction of knowledge through this anthropological artefact; it is the symbolic importance of the flower and the meaning of plastic in the world, as well as the context of relationship with death in which this object is inserted, that makes it possible to tell a story about it. Materiality – precisely from what a material difference triggers – contributes to a reflection on man through questioning the meaning of the artefact.
