Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by challenges in social interaction and communication. Central to this discussion is the intersection between attention and the theory of mind, which refers to the ability to interpret and understand others' mental states. Through a systematic review, this thesis aims to clarify how these two cognitive domains interact in autistic individuals. Studies have shown that deficits in attention, especially attention directed to social stimuli, are intrinsically linked to challenges in theory of mind. For instance, difficulty in focusing attention on another person's eyes can influence the ability to interpret their intentions. Understanding this relationship is crucial, as it can inform more effective intervention strategies and help individuals with ASD enhance their interaction skills. This thesis not only synthesizes current knowledge but also points to promising directions for future research in this field. |
