Por minha conta: DIY nas carreiras de jovens músicos independentes da AML

Abstract

O mundo da música independente não é imune aos desafios presentes nos dias de hoje. Pelo contrário. Como estarão estes músicos a gerir as suas carreiras, tendo em conta o atual contexto socioeconómico, em particular, os jovens, um dos grupos mais afetados por esta crise? Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo a identificação e compreensão das estratégias DIY (do-it- yourself) adotadas por estes jovens músicos. A somar a isto, pretende-se também analisar o início dos seus percursos profissionais na área e identificar os espaços físicos e as características gerais do panorama independente da AML (Área Metropolitana de Lisboa). Por forma a ir ao encontro destes objetivos, foi adotada uma abordagem qualitativa e realizadas cinco entrevistas semiestruturadas a cinco jovens músicos. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, verifica-se a adoção de três conjuntos de estratégias: de multiplicação ou desdobramento, de planeamento e de colaboração. Foi também possível verificar a presença embrionária da música nas vidas dos participantes e a escassez de espaços nas cidades que constituem a AML. Esta investigação abre portas ao estudo com maior frequência e a um maior acompanhamento desta população, cujos elementos apresentam características, necessidades e preocupações que os diferem das restantes gerações.

The world of independent music is not immune to the challenges present today. On the contrary. How are these musicians managing their careers, given the current socio-economic context, in particular, young people, one of the groups most affected by this crisis? The main objective of this work is to identify and understand the DIY (do-it-yourself) strategies used by these young musicians. In addition, it’s intended to analyze the beginning of their professional careers in this area and identify the physical spaces and general characteristics of the independent LMA (Lisbon Metropolitan Area) landscape. To meet these objectives, a qualitative approach was adopted and five semi-structured interviews were carried out with five young musicians. According to the results, we can verify the adoption of three sets of strategies: multiplication or unfolding, planning and collaboration. It was also possible to verify the embryonic presence of music in the lives of the participants and the lack of spaces in the LMA’s cities. This research enables a more frequent study and a greater monitoring of this population, whose elements have characteristics, needs and concerns that differs them from the other generations.
