expansão, colonização e construção do império marítimo português a sul do Arquipélago
dos Açores, Atlântico Sul e Oceano Indico. No entanto, as navegações portuguesas
Historiography has kept in its scope of work special dedication to the study of the expansion, colonization and construction of the Portuguese maritime empire south of the Azores Archipelago, South Atlantic and Indian Ocean. However, the Portuguese navigations took front in other regions of the globe that until now have gone more unnoticed to the academic community. This is the case of the Labrador Sea and Newfoundland, in the far north of the American continent, where navigators in the service of the Portuguese crown have sailed since 1452. The goal of this project is therefore to trace the main lines of force of the Portuguese presence in Newfoundland and Labrador in order to identify not only human relationships, but also natural relationships in this part of the Empire. It is also intended to discern when, how and why these navigators arrived there |
