Histórias de vida: De lá para cá, continuações ou disrupções do percurso profissional na chegada a Portugal

Abstract

O presente estudo tem como objetivo a compreensão da experiência migratória e laboral de pessoas de origem chilena, uma nacionalidade pouco numerosa em Portugal, em particular, perceber se os recém-chegados têm ligações com co-nacionais de forma a obter benefícios no processo de inserção no mercado de trabalho português, de forma a atingir as suas expectativas laborais. A metodologia adotada é de natureza qualitativa, uma vez que permite compreender a interpretação e significado que os indivíduos atribuem às suas experiências vividas e relacionamentos criados. Foi utilizado método de triangulação dos dados que combinam várias abordagens teóricas no estudo para que a análise dos dados seja feita de forma mais completa. Como técnica de recolha de dados, a entrevista semi-estruturada foi preferida pela possível combinação de dois fatores: oferecer a possibilidade de comparar respostas a um mesmo conjunto de questões fundamentais, enquanto, possibilita uma conversa flexível para integrar outras questões mais aprofundadas ou suprimir outras que já foram respondidas ao longo da entrevista. Revela que 3/4 dos participantes quando se instalaram em Portugal, conheciam alguém já estabelecido, mas apenas 1/4 conhecia alguém chileno. Revela que 3/4 procuraram grupos restritos à população chilena em plataformas sociais de internet, como forma beneficiar de apoio e preferência para certas ocasiões sociais. Indica que a inserção nestes grupos, apesar da sua dimensão, em nada afetou a inserção ou sucesso dos participantes no mercado de trabalho e demonstra que a dimensão se torna irrelevante neste processo, ao invés da qualidade dos laços que unem os diferentes indivíduos.

This study aims to understand the migratory and labor experience of people of Chilean origin, a small nationality in Portugal, in particular, to understand whether newcomers have connections with co-nationals in order to obtain benefits in the process of insertion in the Portuguese labor market, in order to achieve their work expectations. The methodology adopted is qualitative in nature, since it allows understanding the interpretation and meaning that individuals attribute to their lived experiences and relationships created. Data triangulation method was used that combines several theoretical approaches in the study so that the data analysis is done more fully. As a data collection technique, the semi-structured interview was preferred for the possible combination of two factors: it offers the possibility of comparing answers to the same set of key questions, while, it enables flexible conversation to integrate other more in-depth questions or suppress others that have already been answered throughout the interview. Reveals that 3/4 of the participants when they settled in Portugal, knew someone already established, but only 1/4 knew someone Chilean. Reveals that 3/4 sought out groups restricted to the Chilean population on internet social platforms, as a way to benefit from support and preference for certain social occasions. It indicates that membership in these groups, despite their size, in no way affected the insertion or success of the participants in the labor market, and shows that size becomes irrelevant in this process, rather than the quality of the ties that bind the different individuals.
