Campo musical Cabo-Verdiano na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa: Protagonistas, identidades e música migrante

Abstract

Portugal é um país que acolhe, desde a década de 60 do século pretérito, uma das mais expressivas comunidades africanas – a cabo-verdiana –, cuja característica saliente é marcada, designadamente, pela presença de uma significativa e dinâmica cultura transnacional. A música, através dos seus mais variados géneros e formas, representa seguramente a dimensão mais importante desta diversificada população imigrante, juntamente com a língua cabo-verdiana. Daí o interesse no conhecimento, tanto quanto possível aprofundado, da realidade musical cabo-verdiana em contexto imigratório, a partir de um olhar atento sobre o chamado campo musical, ancorado particularmente na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (AML). Interessada em caracterizar, nos seus aspectos essenciais, o campo da música migrante cabo-verdiana na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa, esta investigação propõe-se descrever e analisar o funcionamento do campo da música migrante cabo-verdiana, observando a sua configuração, tanto no plano estrutural das relações sociais no seu interior e com o seu exterior, das trajectórias, práticas e perfis sociográficos dos músicos, como no plano simbólico/cultural das representações, identidades, representações e culturas profissionais, com base numa amostra de 102 casos, à qual foi aplicado um inquérito por questionário, para além de métodos qualitativos, designadamente a entrevista em profundidade e o focus group, de forma combinada e de acordo com o princípio da triangulação metodológica.

Since the 1960s, Portugal has been a host country for one of the most noteworthy African communities – that of Cape Verde, whose salient feature is a significant and dynamic transnational culture. In its most varied types and forms, music undoubtedly represents the most important dimension of this diversified immigrant population, in combination with the Cape Verdean language. This is the reason for our interest in gaining as extensive a knowledge as possible of the reality of Cape Verdean music in the context of immigration, on the basis of a careful examination of the “musical field” anchored, in particular, in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (LMA). Reflecting its interest in characterising the essential aspects of the field of Cape Verdean migrant music in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, this research proposes to describe and analyse the way in which the field of Cape Verdean migrant music operates. It will do this by observing its configuration not only on the structural level of the social relations within it and with the outside and of the sociographic profiles, practices and trajectories of the musicians, but also on the symbolic/cultural level of professional cultures, identities and representations. The work will be based on a sample of 102 cases which have taken part in a questionnaire survey, in addition to qualitative methods, in particular in-depth interviews and the focus group, in a combined form and in accordance with the principle of methodological triangulation.
