Aldeias de Crianças SOS: Um instrumento na interrupção dos ciclos de pobreza

Abstract

As Aldeias de Crianças SOS são uma instituição presente em Portugal há mais de cinquenta anos e nesse período já acolheram inúmeras crianças desempenhando um papel fundamental na formação de cidadãos. A pobreza e a educação têm uma relação muito estreita e influenciam-se mutuamente. A quebra dos ciclos reprodutivos da pobreza é influenciada pelos níveis de educação dos quais os indivíduos têm acesso. Quanto maior o acesso a educação de qualidade mais reduzidos serão os níveis de pobreza. Procurou-se então uma investigação qualitativa utilizando entrevistas a técnicos que trabalham na Aldeia SOS de Gulpilhares, Vila Nova de Gaia. Foi possível verificar que estas crianças passam a ter acesso a educação dita formal e informal o que muitas previamente ao acolhimento não tinham. Isso dá-lhes a oportunidade então de aceder a uma formação que tenta deixá-los melhor preparados para o mundo. Conclui-se então que as Aldeias de Crianças SOS têm um papel importante na quebra dos ciclos reprodutivos da pobreza fazendo um trabalho sempre focado para o presente e futuro destas crianças.

SOS Children's Villages have been present in Portugal for more than fifty years and during this time they have taken in countless children, playing a fundamental role in the formation of citizens. Poverty and education have a very close relationship and influence each other. The breaking of the reproductive cycles of poverty is influenced by the levels of education that individuals have access to. The greater the access to quality education the lower the levels of poverty. A qualitative research was then carried out using interviews with technicians working in the SOS Village of Gulpilhares, Vila Nova de Gaia. It was possible to verify that these children have access to formal and informal education, which many of them did not have prior to their arrival. This gives them the opportunity to access an education which tries to make them better prepared for the world. We conclude that SOS Children's Villages have an important role in breaking the reproductive cycles of poverty by always focusing on the present and future of these children.
