Title: | The Nature of the Parties on the Prospects of Power-Sharing in the Angola Peace Processes |
ISBN: | 978-972-8335-21-2 |
Keywords: | Angola Peace Conflict |
Abstract: | This paper identifies the use of power-sharing dimensions in peace negotiations for the Angola civil war and their success or otherwise. It concludes that a series of dynamics were at play preventing successful power-sharing solutions and adds one factor to the current literature. In particular, the monolithic nature of each contending party made it practically impossible for the Mpla and Unita to cooperate under a shared structure. This is illustrated through a historical revision of the conflict's power-sharing provisions and characteristics of each party. |
