Perceções das crianças e jovens face às famílias homoparentais: Um contributo para a compreensão do desenvolvimento do preconceito na infância e adolescência

Abstract

Nos últimos anos, Portugal tem vindo a introduzir alterações legislativas no que toca à igualdade dos direitos dos membros da comunidade LGBTQIA+. Por isso, importa perceber se estas recentes mudanças legislativas se refletem num preconceito reduzido em relação às famílias homoparentais, em particular junto de crianças e jovens. Este estudo tem como principal objetivo servir como um contributo para a compreensão do desenvolvimento do preconceito sexual na infância e adolescência. Assim, explora-se a linha teórica existente acerca do preconceito e do desenvolvimento deste nas crianças, assim como o papel que o contacto com famílias homoparentais poderá ter, traduzindo-se numa representação mais positiva destas famílias. Realizou-se um estudo que teve por base o questionário adaptado da escala The Bene-Anthony Family Relations Test (Saphira, 1989), em que participaram 73 crianças com idades compreendidas entre os 5 e os 17 anos. Foram encontradas diferenças significativas na avaliação das famílias homoparentais entre as crianças de ambos os sexos, assim como diferenças entre idades. Não se verificaram diferenças significativas entre as crianças com e sem contacto, mas verificou-se um efeito de interação entre o ter/não ter contacto e entre o sexo no número de frases positivas atribuídas à família homoparental masculina. Os resultados sugerem que existem diversos fatores que podem influenciar a representação que as crianças têm das famílias homoparentais, como as normas sociais e os papéis de género. O efeito da crescente visibilidade da comunidade LGBTQIA+, quer seja política quer seja através dos media, também deve ser considerado.

Over the past few years, Portugal has implemented legislative changes regarding equal rights for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Therefore, it is important to understand if these recent legislative changes are reflected in reduced prejudice towards homoparental families, particularly among children and youth. This investigation aims to serve as a contribution to the understanding of the development of sexual prejudice in childhood and adolescence. Thus, it explores the existing theoretical line on prejudice and its development in children, as well as the role that contact with homoparental families may have, resulting in a more positive representation of these families. A study was carried out based on a questionnaire adapted from The Bene-Anthony Family Relations Test (Saphira, 1989), with the participation of 73 children, aged between 5 and 17 years old. Significant differences were found in the valuation of homoparental families among children of both sexes, as well as differences between age groups. There were no significant differences between children with and without contact. However, there was an interaction effect between having/not having contact and between sexes on the number of positive phrases attributed to the male homoparental family. The results suggest that there are several factors that may influence children's representation of homoparental families, such as social norms and gender roles. The effect of the increasing visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community, either political or through mainstream media, should also be accounted for.
