Festivais de cinema em streaming durante a pandemia: Análise a partir de um estudo de caso múltiplo

Abstract

Durante o período de pandemia COVID-19, os festivais de cinema foram testando alternativas com o intuito de evitar o cancelamento das edições e manter a sua realização. Face aos constrangimentos provocados pela pandemia, o streaming de vídeo surgiu com solução mais comum entre as organizações que, rapidamente, foram estruturando os festivais para que decorressem num contexto online. Com base em quatro entrevistas a diretores de festivais de cinema em Portugal – Monstra, IndieLisboa, Curtas de Vila do Conde e Porto/Post/Doc – realizadas no âmbito da dissertação, procurou-se compreender o modo como as organizações que mantiveram o festival, mesmo com limitações, estruturam a edição de 2020 e quais as reflexões feitas a partir dessa experiência. Embora tenham mantido a vontade de realizar a edição desse ano, os festivais em análise consideraram que as plataformas de streaming de vídeo foram apenas uma ferramenta de recurso dado o contexto de pandemia, pelo que não defendem esse modelo de evento. Ainda assim, algumas das considerações indicadas revelam que o visionamento de filmes online teve uma boa adesão; as plataformas utilizadas eram seguras e intuitivas para quem assistia ao festival a partir de casa; futuramente, embora o online não signifique a “morte” dos festivais de cinema, os entrevistados assinalaram que se vive um período de redefinição no que toca a organizar festivais de cinema, não só do ponto de vista das mudanças que a pandemia provocou nas práticas culturais das pessoas, mas da própria estrutura organizacional que depende de apoios financeiros para a sua subsistência.

During the COVID-19 pandemic period, film festivals were testing alternatives with the intention of avoiding the cancellation of editions and keeping them running. Faced with the restrictions caused by the pandemic, video streaming emerged as the most common solution among organizations that quickly structured the festivals to take place in an online context. Based on four interviews with directors of film festivals in Portugal - Monstra, IndieLisboa, Curtas de Vila do Conde and Porto/Post/Doc - conducted in the scope of the dissertation, we sought to understand how the organizations that maintained the festival, even with limitations, structure the 2020 edition and what reflections were made from this experience. Although they maintained the will to hold this year's edition, the festivals under analysis considered that the video streaming platforms were only a resource tool given the pandemic context, and therefore did not defend this event model. Even so, some of the considerations indicated that online film viewing had a good adhesion; the platforms used were safe and intuitive for those watching the festival from home; in the future, although online does not mean the "death" of film festivals, the interviewees pointed out that there is a period of redefinition in terms of organizing film festivals, not only from the point of view of the changes that the pandemic caused in people's cultural practices, but also in terms of the organizational structure itself, which depends on financial support for its subsistence.
