Cortes de papel: Presença e impacto das micro-agressões de género na cultura em Portugal

Abstract

O estereótipo de género, fortemente associado aos papeis de género tradicionais, está presente em diferentes esferas do dia-a-dia, conjunto do qual a cultura e as suas expressões não são exceção. Este pensamento, geralmente depreciador do género feminino, pode ser expresso de diferentes formas, estando dentro dessas a micro-agressão de género. A micro-agressão de género não é um conceito investigado substancialmente no setor cultural, ao contrário do estereótipo de género, fundamento do qual parte. Ainda assim, outras áreas como a psicologia, têm vindo a desenvolver estudos sobre este, e como a sua prática tem efeito em quem o sofre. Em geral, o caso do cinema tem vindo a ser referido em estudos sobre o estereótipo de género, sendo visto como uma das expressões culturais que contribui para a objetificação sexual do corpo feminino. Nos estudos realizados em Portugal, o cinema nacional fica bastante em segundo plano, sendo que as expressões onde estes mais se focam é na televisão e na publicidade nos media. Isto não implica que o estereótipo de género não exista no cinema português, e o mesmo aplica-se às micro-agressões de género. Com este estudo, pretendemos trazer algum conhecimento para o setor da cultura sobre a forma como algumas manifestações culturais têm presentes micro-agressões de género. Partindo de uma análise dos conceitos, cruzando bibliografia com documentação primária e analisando algumas das produções cinematográficas realizadas por portugueses, esta dissertação realça a forma como as micro-agressões de género estão presentes na cultura em Portugal, contribuído para a perceção social deste problema.

Gender stereotyping, strongly associated with traditional gender roles, is present in different spheres of everyday life, of which culture and its expressions are no exception. This thinking, usually derogatory to the female gender, can be expressed in different ways, one of which is gender micro-aggression. Gender micro-aggression is not a concept substantially investigated in the cultural sector, unlike gender stereotyping, the foundation from which it starts. Still, other areas, such as psychology, have been developing studies on it, and how its practice has an effect on those who suffer it. In general, the case of cinema has been mentioned in studies about gender stereotyping, being seen as one of the cultural expressions that contributes to the sexual objectification of the female body. In the studies carried out in Portugal, the national cinema is rather in the background, and the expressions where they focus more on are television and media advertisement. This does not imply that gender stereotyping does not exist in Portuguese cinema, and the same applies to gender micro-aggressions. With this study, we intend to bring some knowledge to the culture sector about how some cultural manifestations have gender micro-aggressions present. Starting from an analysis of the concepts, crossing bibliography with primary documentation and analyzing some of the film productions made by Portuguese filmmakers, this dissertation highlights how gender micro-aggressions are present in the culture in Portugal, contributing to the social perception of this problem.
