As 'Representações' de Portugal na obra de Eduardo Lourenço

Abstract

Portugal e a génese da sua identidade, apesar da sua história colossal de nove séculos, impérios globais, reinos caídos, mitologias criadas e caminhos ecléticos, encontra-se, agora com a sua inexistência imperial, um mistério na sua imagem objetiva. Quanto mais se tenta descrever e dissecar em pormenor o que é e como se está, possivelmente, a desenvolver, mais complexa a sua explicação se torna. Esta lacónica descrição de Portugal, contudo, não obtém nenhum aspeto de conotação negativa. Muito pelo contrário, tendo em conta o quão exuberante as histórias, filosofia, autores, lendas e fábulas que este pequeno, embora curioso, país criou. Sendo assim, uma revisão cultural é necessária sobre Portugal e as suas representações como país. Eduardo Lourenço produziu um organon imbatível no que toca a dissecar, explorar e investigar este fascinante conto, seja este por ensaios ou crónicas, discutindo em pormenor certos aspetos intrínsecos à cultura e à sociedade Portuguesa. Esta dissertação, então, tem esta jornada – Dissecar a Imagem de Portugal e as suas representações, através de uma análise bibliográfica, sendo estas inspiradas pelas obras de Eduardo Lourenço.

Portugal and its cultural identity, despite its colossal nine century history, global empires, fallen kingdoms, created mythologies and eclectic paths, has now, without it‟s imperial existence, a mystery in its definition of Image. The more one tries to describe in detail what it is and how it is possibly developing, the more esoteric the explanation becomes. This laconic description of Portugal, however, does not obtain any aspect of negative connotation. Quite the contrary, considering how lush the stories, philosophy, authors, legends and fables that this small, albeit curious, country has created. Therefore, Portugal needs a new take on it‟s cultural belongings and representations as a country. Eduardo Lourenço produced an unbeatable organon when it comes to dissecting, exploring and investigating this fascinating tale, whether through essays or chronicles, discussing in detail certain aspects intrinsic to Portuguese culture and society. This dissertation, then, has the following journey – To dissect the Image of Portugal and it‟s representations, by utilizing the method of work analysis, which are inspired by the works of Eduardo Lourenço.
