This research focused on studying the content of the individual beliefs about 'Healthy Eating', something that has been neglected in the literature particularly in Portugal, and also covered physical exercise but with less emphasis. The main aim was to examine beliefs about healthy eating in pre-adolescent students and subjective norms related to school context. This analysis sought to investigate the role of beliefs in eating habits and physical activity, starting from the perspectives of adolescents and taking into account the subjective norms or importance of the environment. The results of this study were analyzed based on relevant literature - the Ecological Systems Theory of Human Development, the Model of the Health Belief and the Theory of Planned Behavior - using qualitative and quantitative methods. The results indicate the existence of a high satisfaction with the food offered by their schools but also the perception of risks, difficulties and barriers to healthy eating in schools and to physical activity, giving importance to the influence of peers and to the strong parental influence. |
