Trabalho, família e bem-estar: factores e padrões de qualidade de vida na Europa

Abstract

O projecto que está no origem deste trabalho – Quality of Life in a Changing Europe – procura examinar como, numa era de mudança social rápida e intensa, os cidadãos europeus que vivem e trabalham em diferentes sectores de actividade e regimes de welfare nacionais avaliam a qualidade das suas vidas. Foram recolhidos dados de natureza extensiva por intermédio de um inquérito por questionário em oito países: Finlândia, Suécia, Holanda, Alemanha, Reino Unido, Portugal, Hungria e Bulgária. Em cada um deles participaram na pesquisa trabalhadores pertencentes a quatro organizações do sector dos serviços: empresas de retalho e de telecomunicações, um banco e um hospital público universitário. Em termos analíticos merecem especial destaque as exigências e recursos que têm a sua proveniência quer no domínio do trabalho, quer no da vida familiar, e cuja articulação e dinâmica acabam por ter influência na determinação da satisfação e do bem-estar dos indivíduos. São ainda consideradas algumas implicações da diversidade de situações que caracteriza os oito países representados.

This working paper stems from the Quality of Life in a Changing Europe project, which tried to understand how, in an era of sweeping social change, European citizens living and working in a variety of welfare regimes evaluate the quality of their lives. Quantitative data was gathered with a survey applied in eight different countries: Finland, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Portugal, Hungary and Bulgaria. In each country, workers from four different sectors of activity answered to the survey: retail, telecommunications, banking/insurance and a public hospital. In analytical terms, special attention was given to the impact of resources and demands that originate in the work and family domains, to their articulations and dynamics and also to the impacts they have on satisfaction and well-being levels. The diversity existing between the various countries represented is also considered.
