This Master’s thesis aims to compare the taxation of digital business models with the taxation of traditional business models and investigate patterns related to Tax Avoidance practices. In this sense, a quantitative methodology was followed, proceeding to the construction of two linear regression models. The sample under analysis was collected through the Refinitiv Eikon database, consisting of 2650 companies headquartered in OECD member states. The model results reveal that the effective tax rate of digital businesses is slightly higher than the effective tax rate of traditional businesses, contradicting the hypothesis of under-taxation of digital businesses. Furthermore, it was found that digital companies and traditional companies have a similar level of Tax Avoidance. Thus, the existence of a more aggressive tax planning by the new business models is not confirmed. |
