Abstract: | A Fabricação Digital é utilizada desde 1950 associada
Digital Fabrication has been used in many different areas since 1950 associated with the production of components for the Aeronautical and Automobile Industry. Nowadays, digital fabrication is a useful tool that can also be used in Architecture. Through the use of CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing), these technologies can be used in Architecture in the production and construction of buildings and, not only, in its own design. The use of these technologies can be performed in digital manufacturing laboratories, such as “FabLab”. These labs are easy to reach and everything can be achieved there at a low cost and by anyone, to do “almost” everything. Digital Manufacturing Processes and “FabLabs” can be used to give support and answers to the general population interests, and it can provide them with new opportunities. Barreiro Velho, as the historical centre of the city of Barreiro, and will serve as a study case regarding its needs in what concerns Housing context. Thus, Digital Manufacturing processes will be explored to create modular solutions that will improve housing quality, creating low-cost and easy-to-customize solutions. |
