The main goal of this master's thesis is to contribute to gender studies by improving scientific knowledge on sexuality and gender and providing greater access to that knowledge by the academic community and the general audience. Its specific objective is to study, through a comparative approach, the way men and women live (theorize and experience) sex and the feeling of love, seeking to find similarities or differences between sexual practices and representations. Being developed within the scope of a master's program in International Studies, this research also provides a comparison based on the nationality - Portuguese or Brazilian - of men and women, in order to capture the influence of this variable in the practices and representations regarding sexuality. The sample of the study was composed by people belonging to the millennial generation, that is, individuals born between 1982 and 2002, living in a context of significant social and cultural changes. To find possible mismatches between the representation and the practice of sexuality, we propose to develop an intensive study, using semi-directive interviews as the main data collection technique. This dissertation intends, therefore, to contribute to a greater knowledge about the status quo of sexuality in the 21st century, and, particularly, regarding the Portuguese and Brazilian millennial generation. |
