As operações militares de imposição de ordem colonial em Angola (1885-1915) e a teoria geral do comando holístico da guerra

Abstract

A presente investigação visa propor uma análise das confrontações militares entre europeus e africanos, no Centro e Sul de Angola, no período entre a Conferência de Berlim de 1885 e a vitória da Môngua em 1915, considerando os desenvolvimentos político-estratégicos, operacionais e táticos. Por fim, o objetivo desta investigação é demonstrar que no decurso daquelas ações militares é possível validar diversos preceitos nucleares da Teoria Geral do Comando Holístico da Guerra. Para esse efeito procuramos responder às seguintes questões: Qual a tipologia das forças empenhadas nas operações, e quais os modos utilizados para a sua coordenação? Quais as formas de relacionamento entre militares e civis (europeus e africanos) no terreno e sua adequação à condução das missões? Quais eram, como se formaram e evoluíram os objetivos políticos coloniais, em matérias de defesa e segurança? Existiu coerência entre esses objetivos e as realidades operacionais? Quais os modelos de relacionamento entre os poderes políticos metropolitanos e coloniais? Qual a possibilidade de encontrar uma visão prospetiva nos planeamentos estratégicos e táticos? Para responder a estas questões a metodologia utilizada decorre dos princípios holísticos adotados e assenta na análise documental, privilegiando-se uma abordagem qualitativa, seguindo o método dedutivo, apelando a lógicas interdisciplinares, onde o propósito de radicar o essencial da pesquisa no âmbito da História, não dispensa uma abordagem de natureza compósita, tributária das Relações Internacionais e dos Estudos de Segurança e Defesa. A escolha destes princípios teórico-metodológicos, permitiu apresentar um novo olhar sobre estas operações, validando muitos dos preceitos holísticos, contribuindo para um melhor entendimento do papel desempenhado pelo esforço militar, enriquecendo as visões sobre a experiência colonial portuguesa. A tese termina sugerindo algumas direções futuras de investigação.

The present investigation proposes an analysis of the military confrontations between Europeans and Africans, in Central and Southern Angola, in the period between the Berlin Conference of 1885 and the victory of Mongua in 1915, considering the political-strategic, operational and tactical developments. The objective of this investigation is the validation of several major principles of the General Theory of Holistic War Command. To this end, we have tried to answer the following questions: What is the typology of the forces engaged in military operations, and what are the methods used for their coordination? What are the relationships on the ground between military and civilians (Europeans and Africans) and what is their suitability for conducting operations? What were and how were colonial political objectives formed and what’s their evolution in matters of defense and security? Was there consistency between these objectives and operational realities? What are the relationship models between the metropolitan and the colonial political powers? What is the possibility of finding a prospective view in strategic and tactical planning? To answer these questions, the methodology used derives from the holistic principles adopted and it is based on documentary analysis, followinging a qualitative approach, according to the deductive method and appealing to interdisciplinary logics. The purpose of rooting the essentials of research within History requires a composite, tax-based approach to International Relations and Security and Defense Studies. The choice of these theoretical-methodological principles, allowed us to present a new look of these military operations, validating many of the holistic principals, contributing both to a better understanding of the role played by the military effort and enriching the views on the Portuguese colonial experience. We conclude this work by giving some suggestions on possible future paths for investigation.
