The COVID-19 pandemic has created several challenges in people's lives, namely in what comes to the work-family balance. In-person work, for some individuals, was replaced by telecommuting and in-person classes started to be held online instead. This change of routines, for some women, was a huge challenge, especially for their work-family balance. This way, the present study aimed at identifying the coping strategies that women with children implemented in order to deal with the telecommuting experience and the work-family balance, as well as the stressors and resources that were present during four different stages of the pandemic. A qualitative study consisting of 23 women with children was carried out through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was performed using thematic template analysis that utilized the MAXQDA2020 software. The results revealed a diversity of coping strategies, especially of an individual nature. The most mentioned stressors focused on the family. In regard to the resources, the family took on an important role, especially the spouse, whose support stood out. It was also found that some women rated their telecommuting experience as negative by mentioning situations of work-family conflict. However, it was also possible to verify the opposite. One of the explanations for these results focuses on the access to resources and the use of strategies to reconcile the two spheres in an equitable way. There was a need for organizations to offer resources, especially at the level of organizational responsibility, in order to reduce stressors from work and family. |
