Piscinas olímpicas no Vale do Jamor

Abstract

O principal objectivo do presente trabalho centrava-se principalmente na procura da compreensão de como grandes acontecimentos históricos (II Guerra Mundial) influenciaram a arquitectura de grandes eventos desportivos (Jogos Olímpicos). Os casos de estudo foram o Japão, a Alemanha e Itália – por terem sido os países que saíram derrotados da II Guerra Mundial e por terem adoptado estratégias urbanísticas muito diferentes entre si. Para chegar até esta escolha, também foi necessário fazer uma genealogia que abrangesse todos os edifícios que acolheram as provas aquáticas dos Jogos Olímpicos modernos – de 1896 até 2020. Também foi possível perceber como, ao longo do tempo, edifícios com a mesma funcionalidade se foram alterando e desenvolvendo – sempre com o objectivo de melhorar as condições dos atletas. Também se tornou curioso compreender como, mesmo sendo um edifício que hoje em dia tem regulamentações, ao longo do tempo essas regulamentações eram inexistentes – o que resultou em desenhos e construções muito dispares umas das outras. O entendimento e reflexão acerca de estes assuntos, levou ao desenho de um edifício para o Vale do Jamor que, inicialmente, se mostrava muito diferente daquele que acabou por ser. A relação com a natureza foi um tema apresentado em projectos como o de Munique e que, de certa forma, acabou por influenciar o desenho do projecto que neste trabalho se apresenta.

The mais point of this work is the will to understand how big historic events (II World War) influenced big sport events (Olympic Games). The case studies were Japan, Germany and Italy - because the three of them lost the II World War and when faced with the need to design an urbanistic plan, each one adopted different strategies. To make this choice, it was also needed for me to make a geneology - since 1896 until today. By doing this geneology it was possible to understand how, along the years, buildings with the same function would change and develop - always to make the performance better for the athletes. It was curious how, still being a building that nowadays has regulations, this regulations once were nonexistent - which led to very different designs and constructions. The understanding along with some reflection led me to design a building that shows to be completely distinct from the one I started to design first. The relation between nature and buildings was profoundly presented in projects as the one in Munich, and in the end it turned out to influence the design that in this work is presented.
