Abstract: | As superestrelas dos mercados da arte são frequentemente os artistas vivos que alcançam os preços mais altos em leilão e que têm maior visibilidade mediática. Tendo uma posição tão proeminente, o mérito e talento destes artistas é muitas vezes questionado. No entanto, a organização dos mercados da arte é assegurada por várias regras implícitas que garantem o seu equilíbrio e ajudam a filtrar quem pode ou não ascender ao estrelato nos mercados da arte. Assim, é relevante questionar quais são as condições para o estrelato e o que é que um artista precisa fazer para o alcançar. Através da análise genérica das regras dos mercados da arte, da literatura sobre as superestrelas e das marcas humanas e apoiando-se na análise especifica das carreiras dos artistas Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons e Takashi Murakami, esta dissertação estabelece que talento, sorte e branding pessoal têm um papel fundamental na ascensão de uma estrela. Para além disso, encontra indícios de que quebrar as regras pode ser aceite e até mesmo contribuir para o sucesso e fama de um artista, quando este faz já parte do sistema. In the art markets, the superstar artists are often the ones that reach higher prices at auction and have more mediatic coverage. With such a prominent position, the merit and talent of these artists is often questioned. However, the art markets are structured by many implicit rules that ensure its balance and serve to filter who is allowed to reach stardom. This begs the question, what are the conditions to stardom and what has an artist to go through to reach it. Through the general analysis of the rules of the markets, the literature on superstars and human brands, and the specific analysis of the carers of artists Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami, this dissertation establishes that talent, luck and personal branding play fundamental roles for the superstar status. Furthermore, it finds indication that bending or breaking the rules might be accepted and even contribute to artists fame and success, once they are already part of the system. |
