Estações da atenção: uma viagem ao subsolo

Abstract

A presente dissertação teve como objetivo central verificar se existe diminuição da atenção e consequente declínio do desempenho ao longo do tempo de trabalho em maquinistas de uma organização do setor dos transportes de metropolitano em Portugal. Foi ainda objetivo do estudo compreender se as características das linhas onde estes operam têm influência no desempenho da atenção. O objetivo específico era o de compreender se a atenção diminui ao longo do tempo de trabalho e, portanto, poderia ser a causa de eventuais erros cometidos pelos maquinistas. Para a monitorização da atenção utilizaram-se um teste psicométrico (d2 – Teste de Atenção) e medidas de movimento ocular recolhidas através de dispositivos de Eyetracking (DMSs – Driver Monitoring Systems). Foi ainda aplicado um questionário sociodemográfico. Como resposta aos resultados obtidos pelo estudo, pretendia-se contribuir para o melhorar das condições de trabalho relacionadas com o desempenho da atenção deste grupo de trabalhadores e ainda explorar a temática da atenção, com vista a contribuir para o conhecimento científico acerca da mesma. Contudo, o que se verificou através da análise dos dados recolhidos, foi que a atenção dos maquinistas parece melhorar aquando do final do turno de trabalho, pelo que a atenção não constitui, aparentemente, a causa central associada ao aparecimento de incidentes relacionados com o erro humano. Observou-se igualmente não existirem diferenças significativas no que respeita ao desempenho da atenção em ambas as linhas, pelo que tanto a Linha A, como a Linha B do metropolitano, comportam-se, aparentemente, de modo similar.

The main objective of the present dissertation was to verify if there is attention reduction and consequently performance reduction during the working time of train drivers from a company that operates on the metropolitan railway sector in Portugal. Understanding if the lines characteristics influences the train drivers’ focus level was also a target of this study. The specific goal was to understand if the attention decreases with the accumulation of working hours and potentially causing drivers’ mistakes. The focus was monitored using a psychometric test (d2 – Test of Attention) and Eyetracking devices (DMSs – Driver Monitoring Systems) which measured eye movement. A sociodemographic survey was also applied. As a response to the study outcomes, it was intended to improve the working conditions related with the focus performance of the train drivers and also to explore the attention theme, in order to contribute to sharing scientific knowledge in this field. However, the evidence brought by the data showed that the train drivers’ focus seems to increase at the end of the shift. Therefore, the train drivers’ attention doesn’t seem to be the main cause associated with human error related incidents. It was equally observed that there aren’t significant differences on focus performance in both lines, either line A or B have similar focus performances from the train drivers.
