O cuidador informal da pessoa com dificuldades intelectuais e desenvolvimentais: perspectivando a intervenção do serviço social

Abstract

A questão central que orientou este estudo diz respeito ao cuidador informal da pessoa com dificuldades intelectuais e desenvolvimentais, perspectivando a intervenção do serviço social. Assim sendo, procurou-se averiguar as potencialidades e vulnerabilidades dos cuidadores informais durante a relação que estabelecem com o seu familiar alvo de cuidados e de que forma o assistente social poderá intervir nesta relação advinda do acto de cuidar da pessoa dependente. Os objectivos do estudo são: estudar e analisar as potencialidades e vulnerabilidades dos cuidadores informais, resultantes do acto de cuidar de pessoas com dificuldades intelectuais e desenvolvimentais, e contribuir para o desenho de respostas sociais adequadas às necessidades dos cuidadores informais. O estudo efectuado terá um enfoque de investigação extensiva quantitativa, através da utilização das escalas QASCI e ECA, e o tratamento estatístico dos dados recolhidos dos processos individuais, com uma vertente intensiva qualitativa na interpretação e análise dos dados. O estudo revela que os apoios formais e informais ao cuidador informal principal são importantes para que a pessoa com dificuldades intelectuais e desenvolvimentais dependente possa ser cuidada em contexto familiar e para que os cuidadores não cheguem a desenvolver o síndrome de exaustão do cuidador. O assistente social tem um papel crucial a desempenhar neste âmbito, nomeadamente através da relação de ajuda.

The main issue addressed in this study reflects on the informal caregivers of a person with intellectual and developmental difficulties, and the perspective of social service intervention. This being the case, we search to investigate the potentials and vulnerabilities of the informal caregivers in the relationship they establish with the person in need and by witch ways the social worker could act, in the same relationship, being responsible for the person in their care. The objectives of the study are: to study and analyze the potentials and vulnerabilities of the informal caregivers resulting from caring for a person with intellectual and developmental difficulties and contribute to the designing of adequate social responses to the needs of the informal caregivers. The completed study will focus on extensive, quantitative investigation through the utilization of the QASCI and ECA scale and statistic treatment of the collected data from individual files, with a strong and intensive qualification in the interpretation and analysis of the data. The study reveals that both formal and informal assistance are extremely important to give the informal caregivers a way to provide care in a family setting for the person with intellectual and developmental difficulties, and to avoid “Care-Giver Exhaustion Syndrome”. The social worker has a crucial function in these situations, including the related assistance.
