Presença e perceções dos profissionais negros nos programas de informação e entretenimento na televisão portuguesa

Abstract

O presente trabalho procura analisar a (in) visibilidade dos profissionais pertencentes às minorias étnico-raciais através da perceção de jornalistas e apresentadores de televisão, enfatizando a especificidade das suas experiências enquanto sujeitos negros na televisão portuguesa e a avaliação que fazem do papel da televisão na construção e transmissão de representações da diversidade étnico-racial presente em Portugal. Um dos resultados desta pesquisa foi a revelação de quatro perfis referentes aos profissionais: conscientes, meritocratas, confiantes e negacionistas. Outro dos objetivos desta dissertação foi dar conta das desigualdades na distribuição étnico-racial de profissionais da televisão, por um lado, contabilizando o número de jornalistas e apresentadores negros que passaram por alguns canais da televisão portuguesa no período 1992 e 2017 e, por outro, analisando os lugares ocupados por esses profissionais na hierarquia dos conteúdos televisivos. O estudo tem uma estratégia mista, combinando análise quantitativa com entrevistas semidirectivas a 14 profissionais de diferentes canais. Neste trabalho discute-se ainda como é que as imagens transmitidas pelos media influenciam as ideias dos indivíduos acerca deste grupo minoritário inserido na sociedade portuguesa; analisa-se a relação entre Portugal e pessoas negras, assim como procura-se compreender o fenómeno da imigração negra e tenta-se perceber o impacto da presença destes profissionais na construção identitária dos jovens negros, mas também outros.

This paper aims to analyse the (in) visibility of professionals belonging to ethnic-racial minorities through the lenses of journalists and TV hosts. Emphasizing the particularity of their experiences as black subjects in Portuguese television and their understanding of the role of television in the building and transmission of representations of the ethnic-racial diversity existing in Portugal. One of the results of this research was the revelation of four profiles regarding the professionals: woke, meritocrats, trustees and negators. Another aim of this dissertation was to address the inequalities in the ethnic-racial distribution of television professionals: first, by counting the number of black journalists and television presenters who worked in some Portuguese television channels between the period 1992 until 2017. And lastly, analysing the positions occupied by these professionals in the hierarchy of television content. The study has a mixed approach, combining quantitative analysis with semi-directive interviews with 14 professionals from different channels. Additionally, this paper aims to discuss: how the images transmitted by the media influence the ideas of individuals about this minority group inserted in Portuguese society; analysing the relationship between Portugal and Black people, as well as try to understand the phenomenon of black immigration and try to understand the impact of the presence of these professionals in the identity building of young black people but also others.
