Moledo: uma estância balnear do século XX (1910-1976)

Abstract

A partir do século XVIII as praias europeias começaram a ser frequentadas por enfermos, estudiosos ou jovens que faziam o grand tour antes de ingressarem na vida adulta. Em Portugal foi no século XIX que as idas à praias se generalizaram devido à propagação dos discursos médicos sobre o benefício dos banhos de mar e ao desenvolvimento das linhas de caminho-de-ferro. A praia de Moledo não foi exceção. Até então uma freguesia marcadamente rural, com uma população que não possuía um contacto amiúde com o mar que extravasasse a apanha do sargaço, Moledo voltou-se para o seu território junto ao areal, começando-se a construir casas e comodidades que pudessem atrair banhistas. O objeto de estudo deste trabalho é a evolução de Moledo enquanto estância balnear, atendendo às sociabilidades estabelecidas entre veraneantes e entre estes e a população local, trazendo alguma luz sobre as rotinas adotadas durante o verão, e tendo sempre em conta as decisões políticas a nível local

From the 18th century the European beaches began to be frequented by the sick, the investigators or the young people who made the grand tour before entering in adult life. In Portugal, it was in the 19th century that beach trips became popular due to the spread of medical discourses on the benefit of sea bathing and the development of railway lines. The Moledo beach was no exception. Since the final of 19th century, Moledo population and public institutions developed its territory near the beach and began to build houses and facilities that could attract bathers. The object of this work is the evolution of Moledo as a beach resort, taking into account the sociabilities established between vacationers and between them and the local population and bringing some light on the routines adopted during the summer.
