Managing research information at an academic library

Abstract

ISCTE-IUL is a Portuguese public university with approximately 9000 students enrolled in undergraduate (46%) and postgraduate (54%) programs. ISCTE-IUL assumed a leading and pioneering role in Open Access Movement and in the implementation of institutional repositories in Portugal. The first initiatives dated from 2005, with the Institutional Repository development under the umbrella of Information and Documentation Services (SID), and involving the IT service. In 2007, the Repository was made publicly available, and the first version of the Self-Archive Open Access Policy was approved. This policy was adapted and published as a mandate in 2015. In 2013, the CRIS – Ciência-IUL – became interoperable with the Repository. SID begun to validate the registers from both systems developing an accurate metadata validation workflow. The interaction between both systems allows a unique entry for the scientific production. SID has promoted advocacy, training sessions and counselling providing researchers with the skills that they need to practice Open Science. As example, we may refer some initiatives: in 2017, SID promoted a roadmap on Open Access involving research centres. In 2018, a research profile management training session was carried out involving these centres. This poster is focused on describing the activities at ISCTE-IUL that aim to raise the awareness of the academic community for Open Science best practices. It is our goal to highlight the library’s role in research information management, working “collaboratively with other institution services to collect information, improve processes, reduce duplication, and accomplish goals they couldn´t do alone.”
